코코스섬의 스캘럽드 해머헤드 대군 집결은 6월~11월에 정점을 이루며, 이 구간은 코스타리카 우기와 겹쳐 해상이 거칠어질 수 있다. 6월은 해머헤드 시즌이 시작되는 달이다. 섬에는 숙박 시설이 없고 상륙 체류가 금지되어 접근은 푼타레나스 출항 10~12일 리브어보드 전용이며, 편도 항해에만 30~36시간이 걸린다.
